Question
What file dimensions do I need for bleeds on my order?
Answer
Bleed is the extra artwork you extend past the trim line so no white slivers appear if the cut shifts slightly. Most print products use a 1/8 inch (0.125 inch) bleed on every side.
- Add 0.125 inch of background or image beyond each finished edge.
- Keep text, logos, and anything important at least 0.125 inch inside the trim, in the safe area.
- Build the file at the bleed size, not the trim size.
| Finished size | Set up file at (with 1/8 inch bleed) |
|---|---|
| 8.5 x 11 in | 8.75 x 11.25 in |
| 4 x 6 in | 4.25 x 6.25 in |
| 30 x 40 in | 30.25 x 40.25 in |
Always confirm the exact bleed a product needs on its product page, since large-format and specialty items can differ.
