Put a Real Metal Shine in the Mailbox

A metallic postcard carries a real metal foil accent on the front, and that shine is the finish people notice before they read a single word. A bright strip of foil catches the light as the card slides out of the stack, so a logo, a headline, or a border reads as something worth keeping instead of something to toss. Sets of 500 start at $317.44 and hold a 4.9 out of 5 across 45 reviews.

This is the premium end of direct mail. Where a flat card competes on the offer alone, a metallic card competes on feel, so it earns a longer look before anyone decides to keep it or pitch it. The math still rewards a bigger run, and the foil accent is set up once and then reused, so tap any tier below to see the live set total and how much each step up saves you before you commit.

What Is a Metallic Postcard?

A metallic postcard is a full-color card finished with a layer of real metallic foil on the front, so the part of your art you choose to shine reads as a bright metal accent instead of a printed color. Underneath the foil, the card prints full color on a thick 16pt Gloss Cover stock, and you set the ink coverage to 4/0 for a full-color front with a blank back, or 4/4 for full color on both sides. Everything you can change is laid out below exactly the way the live configurator groups it, so you know your options before you touch them.

What Size Should a Metallic Postcard Be?

Size sets the job. The default 4" x 6" is the classic mailer that lands cleanly in any mailbox, and it is the most common pick for a promotion. Step up to 4.25" x 6" or 4" x 9" when you want more room for a headline and an offer, or go all the way to 6" x 11" when the card needs to dominate the stack. There are 9 sizes in all, grouped below the way the configurator presents them, and the foil accent scales with the size you pick, so a bigger card gives the shine more room to catch the light.

Layer a coating on top of the foil

The foil accent does not have to work alone. Leave the card uncoated, add a High Gloss UV coat across the whole surface for an all-over shine, or place a Spot UV gloss on the front so a raised, glassy layer plays against the metal for two kinds of contrast on one card. Round the corners at a 1/8" or 1/4" radius when you want to soften the edges. Want a similar gleam from a pearlescent ink instead of a foil stamp? Metallic Ink Postcards print the shine flat on the surface at a softer, quieter level.

Design it without a designer

You do not need a design background to get the shine right. Start from a ready-built layout in our metallic postcard design templates, mark the shape you want to foil, then swap in your colors, copy, and logo in the online editor. A foil accent works best as an accent, so a crisp logo, a short headline, or a thin border shines harder than a whole panel flooded in metal.

Already have your artwork? Skip the editor and grab a press-ready blank instead. Each blank metallic postcard template is built at the real trim size with the bleed and safe margin drawn in, plus a separate layer that marks exactly where the foil accent lands. Drop your art on, mark the foil shape, and upload.

Wally makes the mailbox shine

Why a metallic postcard gets kept, not tossed.

Wally the 4OVER4 mascot handing a shiny metallic-accent postcard, priced at $317.44 for 500, across a counter to a happy customer, teal hand-drawn line art.

A run of 500 metallic postcards starts at $317.44, and a real metallic foil accent on the front catches the light the second the card leaves the envelope. Print it full color on 16pt Gloss Cover, add a Spot UV gloss or rounded corners, and Wally presses the shine that stops a thumb on its way to the recycling bin.

How Much Do Metallic Postcards Cost?

Metallic postcards start at $317.44 per set of 500, and the per-card price keeps falling as the run climbs toward 25,000. Step up and a 2,500 run is $646.94, a 5,000 run is $910.55, and a full 25,000-card campaign lands at $3,436.82, because the foil accent is set up once and then reused across the whole run. Printing and foiling happen on the same job, then USPS postage is paid on top, priced by the card size and your mail class. So how many do you actually need? How Do They Compare to Other Premium Postcards?

A metallic postcard is one way to stand out on shine, but it is not the only one. For a softer, pearlescent gleam printed flat on the surface, Metallic Ink Postcards give a quieter version of the look. If you want a full run of stamped metal foil in a choice of colors, Metallic Foil Postcards push the shine further, and Spot UV Postcards trade metal for a raised, glassy gloss over a matte base. The chart below lines metallic postcards up against their closest siblings so you can compare the starting price on each before you choose.
