How Does the 3D Flip Effect Work
A magnet usually hangs on a fridge or a filing cabinet, so the viewer moves past it rather than tilting it in the hand. Top to bottom flips as someone looks up or down at the magnet, and left to right flips as they walk past it. Tilting the other way holds the image still, so match the Effect Direction to how the magnet will be seen.
Flip Counts and the Artwork Each One Needs
2 flips need 2 separate artwork frames. This is the cleanest effect, two clearly different images such as a before and an after, or a closed sign and an open one.
3 flips need 3 frames, enough for a short sequence where the middle frame is a real step between the other two rather than filler.
4 flips need 4 frames and read as a short animation, so all four should be the same subject moving, not four unrelated pictures.
What Size Should a Lenticular Magnet Be
Choose by how much room the art needs and which way the magnet reads. The 2" x 3.5" vertical is the business-card footprint and the default, so it doubles as a magnetic contact card. Turn it on its side for the 3.5" x 2" horizontal, or reach for a 2.5" x 2.5" or 3" x 3" square when the flip works better centered. How to Prepare Images for a Lenticular Magnet
Every frame in the flip has to be built at the same size, the same crop and the same scale. If the subject shifts position or scale between frames, the flip reads as a wobble instead of a change. Build the frames as separate full artwork files at the final trim size, not as one file cropped differently for each frame, and supply them at print resolution for that size.
Give the frames enough visual difference to read at arm's length. A color change, a whole new photograph, or a clear before and after all work. A change too small to see from across a kitchen simply looks like a printing fault.
Keep fine text on every frame rather than on one. Type that exists in a single frame appears to ghost, because the lens shows part of the neighboring frame through the transition. Big headline type survives that, small body copy and thin logo lines do not.
