Tamper-Evident Packaging and Seal Set: 7 Print Products That Show a Parcel Was Never Opened
A parcel cannot be made impossible to open. It can be made impossible to open quietly. These seven printed pieces build two layers and a perimeter, so a seal that has been cut, lifted or replaced announces itself before the customer says a word.
The tamper-evident packaging and seal set is seven print products that make an opened parcel visible: custom printed packaging tape and plain packaging tape across the seam, roll packaging labels in 70lb Eggshell Felt as the seal, packaging sleeves and custom tissue paper as the inner layer, printed shipping boxes as the surface, and barricade tape for the staging area. Tamper-evident, not tamper-proof. The job is proof, not prevention.

The picks
Seven products, from $115.33 barricade tape to $438.25 sleeves
Start here. These are the seven products that build the seal. Printed packaging tape takes 20 business days and the roll labels six, so the tape order goes in first and one visual language runs from the outer seam to the tissue inside. Read on for what each piece proves and where it stops working.
Design and print help
Keep every seal reading as the same seal
A seal only works when it is consistent enough that a break stands out. These 4OVER4.COM services keep the artwork, the color and the repeat identical across seven very different substrates.
How they work together
Two layers and a perimeter
One seal can be defeated quietly. Two layers that have to agree with each other cannot, because the person opening the parcel has to guess how it was packed as well as how it was closed.
This is the layer the carrier and the doorstep see. Printed tape across the seam plus a numbered seal label on the flap means any opening leaves a mark that cannot be pressed back down.
The second layer proves the parcel was packed correctly in the first place. Tissue that is folded and printed, a sleeve that has to be slid off, a box printed on the outer face only. Disturb any of them and it shows.
Quarantined pallets, a returns cage, a pick zone that is off limits during a count. A 1,000 foot spool of 4 mil polyethylene printed with your own wording keeps people out of stock they should not touch.
1. Custom printed packaging tape: the seal that breaks mid-letter
Start here, because this one piece does the most work. Your artwork prints continuously down the roll in your choice from more than 75 ink colors, on bright white or clear polypropylene. Run it across the center seam and both side flaps and every cut a knife makes lands somewhere inside a letter or a mark. Nobody re-lays that strip and gets the letterforms to line up again.
The reason this beats a security hologram for most shippers is cost per parcel. The tape was sealing the box anyway. A case starts at $347.11 for 2 inch or 3 inch rolls in 55 or 110 yard lengths, and the per-case price slides toward roughly $162 by 50 cases, so the tamper evidence rides along on a job you were already paying for. Compare the roll against sheet options on our packaging labels versus packaging tape answer if you are deciding which to standardize on.
One honest limit. Twenty business days is the standard turnaround, the longest in this set. Order tape before you need it, not when the campaign is already live.
2. Packaging tape: the plain-run case you keep behind the bench
The second case exists so you never have to break the pattern. Same white or clear pressure-sensitive polypropylene, same four sizes, 36 rolls per case on the 2 inch and 24 on the 3 inch. Keep it for the parcels that do not need a printed seal, for reinforcing a heavy carton, and for the week your printed run is still in production.
There is a practical reason to hold both. A seal only reads as a seal when it is consistent. If half your parcels go out under a printed strip and half under whatever tape was in the drawer, a customer has no baseline to compare against and the printed seam stops meaning anything. Two known cases from the same shop, on the same film, keeps the language clean. Both sit inside the wider packaging printing collection.
Rated 4.9 out of 5 across 63 reviews, on a 20 business day standard turnaround, with a free online proof if you are printing rather than running plain.
3. Roll packaging labels: the eggshell seal that comes away in pieces
This is the piece most shippers get wrong, and the fix is a material choice. Roll packaging labels come in five faces: White Gloss, waterproof White and Clear BOPP, Bright Shiny Silver Metallic Foil, and 70lb Eggshell Felt. Four of those peel cleanly. Eggshell does not. It fractures under a fingernail, so a seal label lifted from a box lid tears into fragments and cannot be smoothed back into place.
Use gloss and BOPP for product identity, where you want the label to survive a cold chain or a wet shelf. Use eggshell where the job is evidence. Everything arrives wound on a 3 inch core in your unwind position, in 102 sizes from a 1 inch square up to a 5 by 7 inch oval, with custom sizing to 7 by 12 inches. Six business day production, printed in-house. Our guide to tamper-evident and tamper-proof stickers goes deeper into what each adhesive actually does under a fingernail.
From $322.98 for 100, sliding to roughly 20 cents each at 2,000 and 7 cents at 25,000. A seal that costs single-digit cents is a seal you can afford to put on everything.
4. Packaging sleeves: a wrap that has to be removed to be defeated
A sleeve is a fixed-die 5 by 5 inch wrap that slides over a disc or a small flat item. Its value in a seal set is mechanical rather than adhesive: to get at what is inside, the sleeve has to come off entirely. It cannot be partly opened and closed the way a flap can, so a sleeve that arrives creased, split or slightly out of square tells you something happened in transit.
Seven stocks are available, including 14pt and 16pt gloss cover, 80# gloss, 15pt gloss one side, recycled uncoated covers at 30% and 100% post-consumer waste, and 14pt white linen. Full color prints on the front with a blank back, plain or under a High Gloss UV coating. Because the die is fixed, every unit in a run is identical, and identical is exactly what makes an odd one visible on a returns bench.
From $438.25 per 100, dropping toward about 20 cents a unit at 10,000, on a 5 business day turnaround. That is the fastest item in this set, which is useful when a launch date slips forward.
5. Custom tissue paper: the inner layer that proves the pack, not just the seal
An outer seal only tells you the box was closed. Printed tissue tells you the box was packed the way you pack it. Fold the sheet the same way every time, print one or two spot colors on white or black, and any parcel that arrives with the wrap loose, torn or absent raises a question before the customer has even found the product.
Three sizes run from 10 by 15 inches up to 20 by 30, on 10lb white tissue at 17gsm, a heavier 18lb white at 30gsm, or 10lb black at 17gsm. Pick the 18lb if the item has corners, because 17gsm tears easily on an edge and a self-inflicted tear looks the same as an interfered-with one. There is more on how brands use the wrap in our piece on custom branded wrapping and tissue paper, and the full range sits on tissue paper printing.
From $126.32 per 100 sheets, falling to about 80 cents each at 2,000, on an 18 business day standard turnaround with a free online proof.
6. Shipping boxes: the surface every other seal is applied to
Every seal in this set is only as good as what it sticks to. A printed box gives you a known reference surface: full color on the outer face, blank inside, printed in-house on 14pt Uncoated Cover or a heavier 18pt Cover with gloss on one side. Two stock sizes, a 5 by 7 by 1.7 inch flat mailer and a deeper 5.5 by 5.5 by 2.625 inch box, with custom sizing made to order up to 6 by 7 inches.
Two practical notes. Choose the gloss 18pt if you are running eggshell seal labels, because a rougher uncoated face lets an eggshell label bite unevenly and fracture during normal handling, which produces false alarms. And size the box to the product rather than the other way round, since void fill that shifts in transit is the single most common reason a customer thinks a parcel was opened when it was not. Our guide on mailer boxes versus shipping boxes covers which format suits which product.
From $711.78 for 250, dropping from about $2.85 to roughly 37 cents a box as the run climbs toward 25,000, on a 7 business day turnaround.
7. Barricade tape: sealing the space where the parcels are staged
The seventh product never goes in a parcel, and that is the point. Most interference happens before a box is sealed, in a staging lane, a returns cage or a quarantined pallet that somebody assumed was pickable. Barricade tape draws that line physically. It is a non-adhesive ribbon on 4 mil polyethylene, safety yellow or safety orange, in 3 inch or 6 inch widths at a full 1,000 feet a spool.
Print your own wording in black or red down the whole length instead of a generic stripe. Quarantined stock, count in progress, do not pick, a batch number, an area name. Wording people recognize as yours works better than a warning they have learned to walk past. If you want the full spec breakdown first, read what barricade tape is.
From $115.33 for a single 1,000 foot spool, falling to $45.72 a spool at 24, on a 10 business day standard turnaround. One spool covers a great deal of floor, so most operations buy the tier and forget about it for a year.

Wally explains the seal
Seven pieces, two layers, one obvious break

Wally does not try to stop anyone opening a box. He makes it impossible to open one without leaving a mark. Printed tape across the seam breaks the artwork mid-letter, an eggshell roll label fractures instead of peeling, and the printed tissue inside proves the parcel was packed the way you pack it. Print the whole set from one place so every seal speaks the same language and a broken one is obvious at a glance.

Common Questions
Common questions about tamper-evident packaging
What is in the tamper-evident packaging and seal set?
Seven products that work as two layers plus a perimeter. The outer layer is custom printed packaging tape, plain-run packaging tape and roll packaging labels. The inner layer is custom tissue paper, packaging sleeves and printed shipping boxes. Barricade tape covers the stock and staging areas that never go in a parcel at all. Ordered together they give you one visual language for every seal, which is what makes a broken one obvious.
Is printed tape genuinely tamper-evident, or just branding?
It is both, and the evidence is registration. A printed roll carries your artwork continuously down its length, so a cut through the seam falls somewhere inside a word or a mark. Re-taping over it will never realign the letterforms, and a second strip of tape sitting on top of the first is itself the flag. Plain tape gives you none of that, which is why the printed roll is the one worth stocking if you only stock one.
Which roll label material shows tampering best?
The 70lb Eggshell Felt. It is an uncoated paper face that fractures under a fingernail rather than lifting cleanly, so a seal label pulled from a box lid comes away in fragments and cannot be reapplied. White Gloss and the waterproof White and Clear BOPP films peel far more cleanly, which makes them the right choice for product identity and the wrong choice for a seal. Silver Metallic Foil sits between the two and reads well as a security-style seal on a dark box.
What does the set actually cost to print?
Each product prices live from its own configurator and the per-unit cost falls steeply with volume. Packaging tape starts at $347.11 a case and drops toward $162 a case at 50 cases. Roll packaging labels start at $322.98 for 100 and reach about 7 cents each at 25,000. Custom tissue paper starts at $126.32 per 100 sheets, barricade tape at $115.33 for a 1,000 foot spool, packaging sleeves at $438.25 per 100 and shipping boxes at $711.78 for 250. Set your real quantities and the price updates as you go.
How long does the set take to produce?
Turnarounds differ by product, so order the slowest item first. Packaging sleeves run 5 business days, roll packaging labels 6, shipping boxes 7, barricade tape 10, custom tissue paper 18, and packaging tape 20. If a launch is close, print the tape and tissue well ahead and let the labels and boxes catch up, or ask about rushing a single piece rather than the whole set.
Does tamper-evident packaging help with a lost or stolen parcel claim?
It changes the argument from a word against a word into a photograph. When a customer sends a picture of a slit seam with your artwork cut through it, or a seal label that came away in fragments, you have a dated visual record of where the parcel was compromised. That is far more useful with a carrier than a plain brown box, and it also settles the internal question of whether the item ever left your bench.
Do I need all seven products?
No, and a small shipper should not start with all seven. Printed packaging tape and eggshell roll labels give you most of the protection for the least money. Tissue and sleeves come next because they turn a seal into an unboxing rather than a security measure. Shipping boxes matter once your parcel is the first thing a customer touches. Barricade tape only earns its place when you have stock sitting in a space other people walk through.
Can artwork be changed between rolls or between runs?
Between runs, yes. Within a single run the die and the plate are fixed, which is why every unit comes out identical, and that consistency is exactly what makes an odd one visible. If you need sequential numbering or a batch code on a seal label, plan it into the artwork before the free online proof, because the proof is the last point where a change costs you nothing.
