Question
Can lamination be added to cardstock that is already gloss, like the 14pt gloss cover?
Answer
Yes. Lamination can still be added to a stock that already has a gloss coating, such as our 14pt gloss cover. The gloss coating is a thin coated finish on the paper surface, while lamination is a separate plastic film bonded on top, so the two are not the same thing.
- Gloss coating: a coated surface on the paper that makes printed ink look shiny
- Lamination: a bonded film layer, in gloss, matte, silk or velvet, applied over the printed sheet
- Adding lamination increases durability, tear resistance and thickness beyond the coating alone
- Choose the lamination type based on the final look and feel you want
