Question

What file format and resolution should I use for my banner design?

Answer

For banners, a print-ready PDF in CMYK, built at the finished size at 150 DPI or higher, gives the cleanest result. PDF keeps fonts and layout locked so nothing shifts on press. Banners are viewed from a distance, so you do not need a full 300 DPI at large sizes.

SpecRecommended
FormatPDF (preferred), with AI, EPS or PSD also accepted
Color modeCMYK
Resolution150 DPI or higher at final print size; smaller banners benefit from higher DPI for close-up sharpness
FontsOutlined or embedded
BleedAdded where the template specifies
  • Design at the actual banner dimensions; scaling a small file up is where most blur and pixelation come from.
  • Keep key text away from the edges.
  • A moderate DPI on big prints keeps the file manageable without losing sharpness at viewing distance.
