What is the minimum text-free area needed if I want to drill holes in my printed pieces?
When a piece is drilled, you want the hole to land in empty space so it never cuts through text or an important part of the design. Keep a clear, text-free margin along the edge where the hole will be placed.
A few tips for drilled holes:
- Leave a clean margin from the drill edge and keep all text out of that zone
- Mark the intended hole position in your artwork so it is easy to confirm
- Check with your printer for the exact safe distance for your specific product, since it varies by size and stock
If you need to move the hole after a proof, send a corrected file and review a new proof before printing.
